The CSA’s mission statement is: “Strong Students; Strong Leadership; Strong Colleges.”

This is achieved through the organization’s Ends statement:

Effective student leadership
Student Associations making informed decisions
The CSA helps train and support student leaders. Through providing these support services on an ongoing basis, member student associations are able to work most effectively through everything from the basics of their daily job descriptions to the dire challenges of a province-wide faculty strike.

Keeping the decision-makers informed of student positions
Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
When the Honourable Christopher Bentley, Minister of Training Colleges and Universities, needs to consult before making a decision that affects our province’s college students, he can’t visit with each individual student or each student association. The Ministry calls the CSA since it represents 109,000 college and college-university students. Relationships such as this, combined with high-impact, creative campaigns and policy papers make the CSA that much more influential in having its members’ voices heard.

College administration
From tuition set-aside (TSA) to ancillary fees, every term a student association will need to work with their college administration on a very frequent basis. The CSA is proud to work with individual members to ensure that their students’ best interests are kept in mind while still maintaining a strong partnership with their college

Quality education
Establish colleges as a valuable choice for postsecondary education
With universities having such a long history, it is a challenge to ensure that all interested parties completely understand the outstanding value of a college education. Ontario college graduates are the lifeblood of the future of the province. Understanding this, the CSA works to ensure that college certificates, diplomas and applied degrees are recognized appropriately in other institutions and that colleges receive appropriate funding to provide an exceptional learning experience.

Teaching accountability
Providing industry-driven curriculum by qualified teachers using state-of-the-art resources should be the paramount focus of Ontario college management and faculty. The CSA partners with all appropriate parties to ensure students are provided with the greatest possible value for their tuition fees.

Proper recognition of prior learning
Transferability of credit between and within institutions
College-to-college, college-to-university and university-to-college transferability is becoming increasingly recognized as an issue as a result of the CSA. It is important that all students are appropriately granted advanced standing and transfer credit for work they’ve completed at prior institutions.

Accessibility to college education
Appropriate college funding
In order for Ontario to become a leader in learning, the government must provide sustainable college funding, keep tuition fee increases responsible and ensure that financial aid reflect the true cost of education. The CSA is a major player in budget consultations with the Ministries of Finance and Training, Colleges and Universities.
